Legacy

featured visual artist LISA FLIEGEL

How do we connect with the generations before us—their culture, also our culture? their DNA so very much our DNA? their medical history, now ours too? Are their dreams a memory, simply gone, or still a continuation in how we live? What does legacy mean for us as individuals but also as a people?  Tonight's event was originally inspired by Ann Bookman’s book of poetry, Bloodlines, which navigates through waves of memory, anxiety, loss, and affirmation of life as an Ashkenazi Jewish family coping with the BRCA gene mutation. Now, through music and art by Jewish creators of today, we explore the joys and concerns of our past, present, and future.

Tonight’s event brings a NewGal commissioned world premiere by LAINIE FEFFERMAN in collaboration with local poet ANN BOOKMAN. Program also includes performances and music by composers DEREK DAVID and EVAN TUCKER, violinist LILIT HARTUNIAN, violist ANNA GRIFFIS,

fiddler/singer/dancer/composer

EDEN MACADAM-SOMER,
pianist
SARAH BOB,

and multi-instrumentalist HANKUS NETSKY.
